Weekly Roundup

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

What a calm week it’s been. It was just a short one (with President’s Day being on Monday). This next week is only going to get quiet busy with my move happening next weekend!

I have decided to begin a series of posts that will come out every Sunday, this will be a sort of roundup of my week. I always have something going on so I figured I’d share a glimpse into my life here in New York! That’s what this blog is here for…right?

Of course work takes up the majority of my time during the week…luckily I am TOTALLY in love with my job. I feel so lucky that when Monday rolls around I truly don’t mind having to go into work. I think that’s a sure sign that I love what I’m doing.

For those of you who are wondering…what is it that she does? I work for Viacom doing special events. We do events across all of the Viacom brands…this includes: MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, BET, Spike, CMT, TV Land and Paramount. The events can range from an executive dinner to the VMA’s. My journey with Viacom began just over a year ago and in that time I went from an intern, to a freelance junior coordinator to a staff coordinator. I get to see some truly amazing events come to life…events I’ve only dreamed of working on. Anyways…enough about how much I enjoy my job.

Monday-Friday are mostly all work…with an event happening here and there. There won’t be an event for a few weeks and then there will suddenly be 3 in one week. Funny how that works! Currently I am working on a Comedy Central party so the closer we get to the date the busier things become. This week was the start of a few later nights…luckily I’m a total night person and enjoy staying late since I feel most productive once the sun goes down. Usually I force myself to leave the office early since I usually have something going on after about 8pm…and usually this something is a dance class.

I quickly found out that Gyms in New York are far more expensive than those in California…along with just about everything else you’d purchase in NY. Even a single class at a studio will run you about $20-$30 and even some $40 classes…it’s insane.

SO I discovered Class Pass and I think it’s the best. I pay $125/month for unlimited classes all over Manhattan. There are hundreds of studios signed up with Class Pass so I have a huge variation of classes I can take. There’s everything from martial arts to kickboxing to barre yoga, spinning and Zumba…literally something for everyone. If you want some gym time there are even gyms like 24 Hour Fitness and Crunch on there. The only catch is that you can’t go to a studio more than 3 times per month. This isn’t the end of the world though because it pushes me to try new classes.

With alllllllllll of these classes I still stay true to my dance classes. I usually go about 4 times a week so I am absolutely getting my moneys worth…making my $125 Class Pass fee worth it in just 5 classes. My favorite studio in New York is Banana Skirt Productions…LET ME TELL YOU. These classes are SO much fun. I’ve learned the music video choreography to the Biebs “Sorry”, “WTF” by Missy Elliot, Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” and even Beyoncé’s new song “Formation” to name a few. My personal favorite is Ratchet Zooba (not Zumba…Zooba). It’s basically sexy hip hop Zumba with a far better playlist. SO MUCH FUN and a really great workout. I also love Vixen dance classes, Twerkout Fitness and Broadway Bodies. If you ever want to go take a dance class…I’m your girl.

Besides dance classes and work the rest of the week was pretty chill. Not a ton going down this week besides a dermatologist appointment on Friday. One of the hardest things about moving is finding new doctors! I got lucky with my dentist after a great recommendation from a co-worker. Two root canals later I don’t think she’s saying the same thing about me!

After my first appointment with this dermatologist I think she’ll be my go to…another lucky doctor find (props to ZocDoc)! Can we talk about how much I enjoy going to the dermatologist though. Anyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with skin care (let’s be honest…all beauty stuff in general). I began working at Clinique when I was 19 and was there for 5 years…in that time I formed such a love for skin care and realized just how important it is to take care of your skin. These old ladies would come into my work and lecture me about taking care of my skin. I SWEAR if my skin isn’t perfect in my 60’s I’m going to be very upset…years of so much wasted money haha.

I spent my Saturday catching up on a few things. Laundry and cleaning…obvs. Then to my favorite nail place in Greenwich Village. I go down there to get my nails done because it’s my favorite neighborhood in New York. Any excuse I can use to go down to that area. It was also a beautiful day, 60 degrees in February!! I even stopped at Juice Generation to get a smoothie…felt like a summer day after all the cold weather last weekend (1 degree at one point).

If you’re ever in NY this is an area that you need to explore. I really love how quaint it is, most of the streets are small 1-2 lane roads lined with the most beautiful buildings. There aren’t many signals, mostly small cross walks. So many little shops and restaurants…when I’m down there I enjoy popping in and out of stores, grabbing a bite to eat and shopping around a bit. There is also a dog store next door to where I get my nails done…I go in every time I walk by. The guys working there have got to know me so they always let me play with the Wheaten puppies. I want this breed of dog sooooo freaking bad…everytime I go in there these guys think they’ll get me to buy one…eventually.

After getting my nails done and hanging out in the neighborhood I stopped into Starbucks to get yesterday’s post up, check it out!! After that I went a caught a movie in Time Square, near where I live. I saw How to be Single. It was cute! The message at the end was very cute too. Basically that we should enjoy being single and enjoy our independence while we can because we never know how long it will last for. I think I also found a liking to this movie since it’s about a single girl who just moved to New York…yup, that’s me! Clearly I enjoy my independence…hanging out with myself all weekend, dining alone and catching a movie with myself. I’ve always been a pretty independent person…I enjoy the challenge of figuring things out on my own and doing whatevvvvvvver I want haha.

Well this post has become quiet the rant of randomness!! Thanks for making it to the end! I promise my life if more interesting haha…this was just a slower week. Let’s see what the next week brings us!! Until next time xoxo
